Macon County Judge Denies Homecoming

In the City of Decatur, Illinois, there have been hundreds of questions over the years and no answers, as to why Decatur Children and Family Services took two little girls from their parents and the courts won't give them back. Unique Dream and Atrue Dream Williams, now ages 10 and 5 years old are the subject of all those questions. They are the daughters of Mildred Jones and Napoleon Williams, Owner of Black Liberation Radio.
The most frequently asked question is: What did the parents do to warrant the taking of their children? Well today, an answer came when Judge Theodore Payne handed down his final decision saying, "the youngsters will not be going home." It seems that the parents lost their parental rights to have their children, "not for what they did, but for what they didn't do."
No charges were brought against the couple other than the fact that they refused to honor a planned program put together by DCFS. The plan is one that is designed for people who have had their children taken away from them. These classes are to help parents develop better parenting skills. It covers psychological evaluation, lifestyle choices, victimization, sexual abuse & relationship issues, drug & alcohol abuse, codependency issues and behavior disorders. Since none of these problems were issues in the taking of their children, Jones and Williams say they don't need to take the classes. It would be admitting that they had done something wrong and they haven't. Adding that the best interest for the children would be returning them to their home.
Mildred Jones & Napoleon Williams had no lawyer, the couple represented themselves in court. They were permitted to state their case, give testimony and cross examine each other with questions relating to the case. They talked about the issues they felt should have been looked into, including the non- investigation of the home before taking the children. They told the court that their Constitutional rights have been violated. Assistant State's Attorney Scott Rueter argued that the couple's testimony was irrelevant, and since they refuse to take the program as they had been told to do, their rights should be terminated.
In an earlier court session, Williams asked that the court bring his girls to juvenile court so they could be seen and heard. Today, he had with him prepared questions for the girls but never got the chance to ask them one. The youngsters were there, but they were not seen in the courtroom as Williams had asked. When court recessed, the youngsters were questioned, in chamber, by Judge Payne.
Both the Judge and Brian Finney, attorney for the children, admitted that Atrue, the younger girl, has a strong bonding with her mother and father. But the final word was termination. Even though she is in foster care, Atrue has been seen in public with her parents. She visits her mother, father, and two younger brothers Miracle & Khallid, in their home on a regular basis. The couple have not been permitted to see their oldest daughter Unique since last December. She lives in foster care in Macomb, Illinois.
Judge Payne's decision for long term foster care and possible adoption will continue for the two little Williams girls, but the parents say they will never give up.
